Maureen Girdlestone

Maureen has recently retired as director of Waterfront Charters where she and husband Nelson pioneered yacht charter in the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront when it was still a construction site. It had been Nelson’s dream to sail the oceans of the world as did his famous ancestor Admiral Horatio Nelson. A series of setbacks resulted in the yacht stolen. A frantic world search ensued – like looking for a needle in a haystack. The actions of a good Samaritan took them across the oceans to Grenada in the Antilles. Maureen moonlights as a freelance travel journalist having sailed and  travelled extensively.  Now widowed Maureen  lives in a mountain ‘eyrie’ in Constantia. This is her debut novel.

Sylvia Strauss

South African based floral designer and wedding planner Sylvia Strauss combines her passion of food, flowers and entertaining in a unique nostalgic fashion with Trouvrou. As a small town girl she cherished the quality of yesterday to the modern fast pace beauty of today. It is the perfect wedding gift and will become any bride’s best friend. With a National Diploma in Hospitality management and more than 20 years’ experience in the hospitality industry both locally and abroad she has lots to offer you.

Salig!

Rob Caskie

I love telling stories, always have. Who would ever have conceived that sharing stories about solo motorcycle journeys in Africa would have led to a career as storyteller? With a varied background and extensive travels I have always believed that human beings have an innate desire to hear stories, more particularly stories about human beings, rather than events.
My storytelling career began in earnest in 2001, on the famous Anglo-Zulu War battlefields at the foot of world renowned raconteur, David Rattray. Researching and sharing human dramas has taken me to the Antarctic on numerous occasions, the Arctic, annually to the UK and very regularly to the Battlefields.
One may tell a tale that takes up residence in someone’s soul, becomes their blood and self and purpose. That tale will move them and drive them and who knows what they may do because of it, because of your words. That is your role, your gift as storyteller / influencer.
That special privilege and responsibility drives me daily to hone my skill, research new stories, and share the fantastic lessons which emerge from these stories of Life.The theatre of your imagination is a very powerful backdrop.
I choose stories from my repertoire for clients depending on their theme or what their objective is. I modify content accordingly, drawing from a miscellany of stories. A company with diversity issues will not want the same delivery as a game lodge or birthday gathering.
With stick and trademark shorts, I pride myself in positive, unique storytelling – live or online.

Jessica Mtsweni

Jessica Mtsweni is faith and wellness writer, as well as a digital entrepreneur based in Cape Town, Western Cape. She consider herself an ambitious go-getter with a big dreams, and an even bigger desire to achieve. She has come to learn the hard way what success is and isn’t. It’s these multiple and messy experiences that nudged me to settle in and slow down and revisit the ‘why’s’ of what I do. This shifted her entire perspective and set me off on a path of healthier, and more intentional living. Her Book Girl In Progress: Lessons from a Dreamer and an Eternal Optimist is not necessarily a how-to, but more of a why-not book. It’s an invitation to explore a new way of living and uncovers themes like finding balance, self-trust, self-care, resilience and intention. It provides insightful solutions on how you can create a more satisfying life by:

declaring, defining and nurturing your dreams;

letting go, unloading what no longer serves you and making your life a place of welcome;

defining your boundaries and limits in your life and living intentionally, audaciously, and unapologetically.

It’s that safe landing place we all need; a poignant reminder that life doesn’t have to be a frenzy and slow-and-steady, showing up and savouring the here-and-now moments is also a divine way to go about living.

Book: The Sailor’s Wifi

It provides insightful solutions on how you can create a more satisfying life by:

declaring, defining and nurturing your dreams;

letting go, unloading what no longer serves you and making your life a place of welcome;

defining your boundaries and limits in your life and living intentionally, audaciously, and unapologetically.

It’s that safe landing place we all need; a poignant reminder that life doesn’t have to be a frenzy and slow-and-steady, showing up and savouring the here-and-now moments is also a divine way to go about living.

Owen Dean

Intellectual property specialist Prof Owen Dean chats about his groundbreaking litigation against the formidable Walt Disney corporation. Owen protected Solomon Linda’s copyrights for the original tune inThe Lion Sleeps Tonight using a claim founded on the ‘Dickens Clause.’  Originally driven by the need to protect the rights of Charles Dickens’ impecunious heirs, this obscure provision (incorporated into South African law years ago) protected Linda’s own heirs! As a self-published thriller writer himself Owen offers invaluable insights into the nuances of copyright protection, empowering self-published authors to safeguard their artistic creations.
